This Group is in conjustion with Kitega Community Centre in Uganda. It is for people who want to help and make the world a better place.

The goal of Kitega Community Center is to work for the social uplifting of children with special education needs, people infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS as well as those adversely affected by poverty, in a bid to improve their standards of living. Our mandate is to engage in the capacity building and economic empowerment of the registered members so as to improve their standards of living. The center continues to depend entirely on donor funding for the time being so as to enable it achieve the desired goals and to ensure sustainability. Given time, the project is expected to have some income generating activities and will therefore not entirely depend on donor funding.

What we do: At Kitega Community Center we currently offer literacy and vocational training programs for the children with special education needs, we also have extended services in terms of programs for people infected/affected by HIV/AIDS and the community environment including the people living within the area in which the center is located, with the aim of economic empowerment.

Mission: Kitega Community Centre aims at attaining a good standard of living for the disabled children and the people in the areas surrounding the project base in order to promote their wellbeing and development through disease prevention, care/support, poverty alleviation, job creation and economic empowerment enabling the disabled to be independent in their society.

Vision: Our vision is to spearhead the fight against the effects of disabilities, HIV/AIDS and poverty by facilitating the flow of knowledge, strategic information and resources for the benefit of the entire community.

The center has been undertaking various activities and is currently embarking on an environmental tree planting campaign by the children to the community. This is intended to teach the children relevant skills in environmental conservation and to integrate  them into community based activity.

The future of the project will be to find private corporate sponsors to the tree planting activity and may be once we have a substantial number trees planted, to find relevant partners and to participate in the Carbon Credits Trading as a way of bringing financial benefit to the children and the respective communities involved. It is in this light that this proposal has been presented to your organisation  to lobby for funds and to facilitate the implementation of this program’s activities.
